INDIANA RACING QUESTIONS:

1. QUESTION:  How do you register a broodmare with the state of Indiana so that her foals are eligible to be Indiana Bred?

1. ANSWER:  Go to the IHRC website (www.in.gov/hrc/) then find “Breed Development” on the left and click on “Quarter Horse,” then click on “Application for Registration.” Mares in foal need to be registered to the state by July 1st of the year before they foal. Any mare that enters the state after July 1st or misses the deadline to register by July 1st…their foal can still be Indiana Bred, but only if you breed that particular mare back to an “Indiana Sire/Stallion” (the stallion must stand in the state and be registered to the state) after she foals.

2. QUESTION:  How and when do I register my weanling with the state in order for it to be Indiana Bred?

2. ANSWER:  Go to the IHRC website (www.in.gov/hrc/) as described in the answer to question 1 above. Weanlings can be registered for free up to 1 yr from their foaling date. After 1 yr from foaling date, foals can still be registered Indiana Bred with a late fee.

3. QUESTION:  How do I find a list of eligible Indiana Sires?

3. ANSWER:  Go to the IHRC website (www.in.gov/hrc/) as described in the answer to question 1 above. Once you click on “Quarter Horses”, you will see a link in the middle of the page to a list of all Indiana eligible sires.

HELPFUL INTERNET RESEARCH QUESTIONS:

3. QUESTION:  What website can I quickly lookup results for various races at various tracks?

3. ANSWER:  We like and use www.equibase.com to lookup results for any race & track.

4. QUESTION:  What website can I quickly lookup race results and speed indexes for a particular horse?

4. ANSWER:  www.equibase.com is also great for this. Once you are on their home page, if you look to the upper right corner of the site, you will see a place to type in a horses registered name. Doing this will pull up all past races and results as well as how the horse is bred, who trained it, bred it, owned it during its last out.

5. QUESTION:  Is it possible to watch past races from various tracks or past races of a particular horse?

5. ANSWER:  Yes, we love www.qracingvideo.com. From their home page you can find past races by date, by track, or by horses registered name.

6. QUESTION:  Where can I research pedigrees for particular horses?

6. ANSWER:  There are several ways to find pedigrees on horses. We usually try www.allbreedpedigree.com first. When you go to this home page, you will type in horses registered name in the box at the upper left corner of screen. If you cannot find a particular pedigree here. Then try www.equibase.com. As described in question # 4 above, type in horses registered name and click search. When horse’s info comes up, you will see its sire, dam and dam’s sire listed under its name. You can click on any of those 3 names (sire, dam or dam’s sire) to see extended pedigree & race results of each. As a last resort we will go to www.aqha.com for extended pedigrees, however; this will cost money.

7. QUESTION:  Where can I find a list of the offspring for a particular mare or sire?

7. ANSWER:  Sometimes you can find mare offspring on www.allbreedpedigree.com by typing in mare’s registered name and choosing “Progeny” under “Reports”. However, a lot of the time this info is incomplete or not there at all. To find all offspring of a particular mare or stallion, www.aqha.com has been the most complete and useful. Again, as I mentioned above this will cost money.
